I don’t know who put up the post for the nomination but this morning I followed a hit in statcounter on Radical back to Bloodhound.
Wow, cool, it’s been nominated for this little contest, so I tell my staff, hey vote for me. Then as peruse the morning forums, I post, Hey I need your vote, and move on with my day. Late this afternoon, I check back to see who won and find this announcement:
“The People’s Choice Award voting was spampaigned again this week, and it’s really put me off my stride. It’s plausible that the folks — never more than one a week — who are spamming their address books don’t stop to think that they are cheating. But if they did stop to think, I don’t see how they could avoid the conclusion. It a simple idea: “How would I feel if I were bested not by someone who worked harder and did better, but who had a larger warm network?” No one has any trouble identifying injustice when they’re on the receiving end. In any case, I’m not going to name a People’s Choice winner this week. And starting next week I’ll put would-be spammers on notice every week.”
..and I thought what the hey?
Then I thought, oh oh, I posted this on two notary forums and one abstractor forum and you know what? There’s a whole lot of notaries and abstractors who read those forums. Trust me I know. I see the hits on my site. Ok, so I’m wondering am I the bad guy? My motives were pure because I think the more people who are in the biz who get driven to a site to read, the better and I consider the content of the post itself the contest.
In fact, I think participation by these two groups in voting would be a great way to bring attention to the subject. So, did I ruin a contest by trying to focus attention on the lousy treatment of notary signing agents and abstractors?
Well, then I started to chuckle because I recalled mentioning the contest to my friend C in an e-mail around lunch time and my friend C is very competitive and her husband works for a pretty huge corporation and her son is at Penn State and then I thought, NO, she wouldn’t, but I DO know my friend and she works networks like a fiend. So, I truly don’t know if I’m the contest crappo creep but I might be. If so, I humbly apologize.
I did get a good chuckle out of thinking about C tooling about the web raising a ruckus.
And whoever did nominate that post, thank you, because the message is heartfelt and you gave it some more life and that’s a good thing.
Wade, on the other hand was selling sex. I’ll bet his post has WAY more hits than mine, huh Todd?
It’s all good. I think it’s a natural reaction to tell others about your accomplishments. But on the other hand, I think the most rewarding way one could win that award is to know that only other bloggers, or peers who “get” blogging were the ones who awarded it.
Oh, and sex apparently doesn’t sell as well as zillow in terms of page views.
Well, I don’t think Greg is a jerk. I think he’s a good writer and I enjoy reading his posts.
So, it’s true, I’m the creep who crapped the contest. Well, you don’t know what you don’t know until you know it and now I know……
Thanks!!
