WordPress 2.5 Disappoints? Not Just Yet…..Simply Delayed.

I expressed a bit of concern over the pending changes to the new and “updated” WordPress (a popular blogging plagform used by many real estate related sites including Lenderama.com) dashboard a few weeks ago citing that it seemed to be a few steps backwards in terms of style and usability as shown on a beta preview site. Since there was a very good chance that these quirks may have been corrected in the final release, I was excitedly awaiting the release of WordPress 2.5 on Monday, but Monday has come and gone with no release or announcement. There has, however, been an update on the WordPress Trac pushing the release back to 3/17. My hope is that the extra development time will not only help to alleviate new feature issues but will specifically help to improve the beta version of the dashboard.

I thought that it was a bit odd that there was no announcement or communication of any type and SixApart’s Chief Evangelist (SixApart makes the competing Movable Type platform) Anil Dash seized the opportunity to fill the void with his own message to WordPress users in this blog post. He writes, “As you might know, WordPress 2.5 is about to be released, and we wanted to encourage WordPress users to upgrade. To Movable Type.”

Wordpress founder, Matt Mullenwag didn’t appreciate the open call to WordPress users and shared his thoughts via twitter, which drew a quick response from Anil Dash as shown below. (via techcrunch..com)

In any case, 2.5 should prove to be a great release considering 2.4 was skipped, let’s hope the dashboard issues are resolved.
