blogging and Facebook

by Diane Cipa on January 7, 2009

Just wanted to report that the hyper-localized blog, Ligonier Living, has been going strong since March. It’s a blast and community participation continues to grow.

An interesting development is the crossover into Facebook. While we, the community contributors and me, continue to add links and create posts about businesses who still have no web presence, we’re also integrating Facebook links into Ligonier groups and somehow this is tying our community together in a really neat way. Ligonier Living has become a wonderful communication tool for our little town and a nice soft sell platform for the title agency.

Thanks again to Todd for teaching me how to do this and leading the way. ;)

  • What a great idea! How very fun for your community to have such a great network of resources and ongoing conversations. Very well done.
  • Congrats to your community on such a great cross link campaign! That was a fantastic idea and a great way to get other aspects of your community participating, thanks for sharing it with us!
  • You're welcome. It's fun and it's free!
  • Thanks for sharing. I live in the small Texas suburban town of Leander, northwest of Austin and adjacent to Cedar Park. I will use some of your concepts as I am a member of Facebook as well.
  • Hi Diane,
I agree that to have a place to voice your professional opinion is wonderful, whether we agree or not. I love the pic that you used for Ligonier Living . It looks like a scenic place to enjoy.
  • Congrats on the cross promotion! That is a wonderful idea to get your social networks working together!
  • I really like the way your blog is set up for so much community participation! You are an excellent example of how social networking can bring traffic to your blog.
  • Thank you all for such kind comments. Frankly, it has exceeded all expectations and continues to morph into something wonderful.
  • interesting idea......
  • Congrats, and may I just add that I loooove Facebook. Such a great networking tool!
  • Its all good, but sometimes I get a bit confused. You're exchanging comments on a blog, telling people on twitter about your latest blog post, and inviting friends to join you on Facebook and network with you on LinkedIn. Is there any work involved in this somewhere, or is it all just chit-chat?
  • I do very little on LinkedIn or Twitter, just enough to have a presence. Facebook is my personal place to chat with family and friends. I maintain two blogs now, Title Insurance Talk and Ligonier Living. Title Insurance Talk is direct communication with consumers about title insurance and related issues. It's practically the only place on the web where you can get simple answers to simple questions.

Ligonier Living is what this post is all about. I very rarely talk about work there. It's a place to get to know people and our town and supports the entire business community for free. As a marketing tool it serves to create awareness and name recognition. It's really more fun than anything, takes very little time and while it is work related, it's now more of a personal hobby. For those of us who work all the time, having something like a hobby incorporated into the day is a life enricher.

The Facebook connection happened on it's own when we noticed Ligonier groups forming on Facebook and now we have them linked and we find Ligonier people on both platforms and we cross talk. It's very interesting. In the meantime, Ligonier is getting great coverage, all for free. That means businesses and residents prosper and that's good for all of us.
